Jamie Foxx is trending because of the Superhero film Project Power and the new Disney-Pixar film Soul.

!!!Beware of possible SPOILERS!!!!

Both movies are must-see films that you actually have to tune into to get to know the good stuff.

First and foremost Happy belated birthday to the triple threat, Actor, Musician, and Comedian Eric Marlon Bishop, better known as Jamie Foxx. The Terrell, Texas native was born December 13, 1967, and his love for music earned him a scholarship to the U.S International University of San Diego for classical piano and music theory.

One could say that's where he got his start however, Foxx has loved music since he was five years old. A love that is so profound that it can be found in the vast majority of his stand-up, his television sitcom, and his movies.

Project Power was released on August 14, 2020, and it is available on Netflix. This action superhero film was directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, written by Matt Tomlin, and produced by Eric Newman and Bryan Unkeless.

In this film ex-military soldier and father Art, (Jamie Foxx) teams up with Frank (Joseph Gordon-Lewitt) and Robin (Dominique Fishback) in search of the source of the new drug on the street called Power. The magical pill allows you to have a superpower but at a deadly cost: you don't know what power you will get and you may just die.

That really doesn't sound like a pill I would take given the fifty-fifty chance to die instantly. With such an outrageous side effect, you would think no one would take it. But the movie proves otherwise which kept me on my toes. Click the image above to view the trailer.

Major props to the producers and executives that chose the soundtrack and its musical guest. This film features Spoken word Poet Dominique Fishback (Robin) as a gifted freestyle rapper and a cameo of 23-year-old Alabama rapper Chika. This film represents Chika's first debut performance on screen but she is not new to an audience. Watch her 2020 NPR Tiny Desk Concert with the link below. Robins freestyles seen throughout the film were written by Chika, as well as, the film's outro song My Power of which you can listen to when you click her image.

Lastly, what I did not like most about "Project Power" is how Art (Jamie Foxx) was speaking to Robin (Dominique Fishback) in certain scenes of the film. Given the intense circumstances, I understand his frustration but I was not expecting him to speak to Robin in an aggressive adult manner. Maybe it's because Robin's clothing, hair, and reaction to her surroundings remind me of her character's adolescents.

In total, I enjoyed the film and would recommend it. The action, storyline, and theme keeps you on the edge of your seat enough to make you watch it twice. Check out the movie for yourself on Netflix and tell me what you think in the comment section below.
