The biggest, most annoying, and challenging question everyone is faced with since we can speak words is “ what do you want to be when you grow up?” Some of us are blessed enough to know right away and stay that course forever. While others are not so fortunate and dread those words.
To add insult to injury, as we age the answer to what do you want to be in life gets harder to answer. And the question grows heads and multiples by turning into “who am I? Or “ what do I stand for?”
In life, we are pressured into doing things. We all experience pressure from our immediate surroundings such as school, work, society, and family.
These social groups require their own level of focus, patience, and communication. And have their own issues, shortcomings, and frustrations.
So how do you handle adversity? How do you handle continuous miscommunications or even a break-up?
Do you let these small things define you? Do you let issues sit, grow, and fester? Do you let people influence your decisions?
We tend to look at some of these things and how we handle certain situations to determine Who we are, Who we want to be, and What we stand for.
Hopefully, your experiences can act as a guide to help you better understand yourself because understanding who you are can lead to the most enjoyable and successful life and career.
Below is a poem from my Library of Thoughts Titled “Who are You”.It speaks to younger generations about finding themselves with some undertones of religion. Tell me what you think in the comment section.
God put me here and I have to do my best even when I’m thrown a test or difficult task.
I have to make my future and present better than my past
These moments we live are valued and counted.
Even when time stands still, and days seem like hours we are on God's time.
Everything we have can be gone within seconds.
Not clothes and materials.
People, life, loved ones can be gone before you know it.
Stay longer, hug tighter, love harder
Yolo; you only live once right?
Living it up with that drink in your cup will shorten your time.
Kill your insides,
Make you want to reverse what you’ve done
But only after the long run.
Some people believe what’s right in front of them instead of a higher being.
But eyes can deceive you from seeing,
the light within the inner truth or the pieces to the puzzle.
People of my generation have earned a terrible name
Cause these boys are attracted to rear ends hanging out little skirts
These girls like flexing muscles in tight shirts.
Marry a girl if she can twerk right,
Date a guy if his money tight.
Can anyone see the monstrosity before me?
The focus is off, steel sharpens steel
But there isn’t steel in these young minds,
Just technology, self-worth, and pride.
Distractions that capture and hold one's time.
Our generation is the future but we are dying and catching more diseases than ever.
Do you see the big picture?
You won’t be anything or go anywhere without God in the mixture.
